IAPMO UES UER 0305No-Burn®, Inc. announces the issuance of their new evaluation report. The evaluation report is a product of a partnership between IAPMO Uniform Evaluation Services (UES) and No-Burn®, Inc. No-Burn®, Inc. as a premier manufacturer of intumescent and fire retardant coatings, is widely respected and relied upon for coatings solutions and technical feasibility. For nearly 20 years, the coatings manufactured by No-Burn®, Inc. marketed as No-Burn® are being installed to satisfy prescriptive building code fire performance requirements, meeting the intent of the building codes as addressed in UER-0305.
The issuance of the report was long awaited as the scopes range from surface burning characteristics as an interior finish, alternate thermal and ignition barriers and fire resistance for compliance with the 2012, 2009 and 2006 International Residential Code (IRC®), the International Building Code (IBC®) and the International Existing Building Code (IEBC®).
With the adoption of the 2012 IRC®, builders, engineers and code authorities have awaited the issuance of No-Burn®, Inc.’s new evaluation report, UER-0305. Pursuant to the 2012 IRC®, intumescent coatings, specifically No-Burn® Plus may be professionally, field-applied to prefabricated, solid sawn wood I-joists as an alternative to the 2x10 dimensional lumber prescribed in Section R501.3, Exception 4. Adoption of the 2012 iCodes, which includes the 2012 IRC® or specific provisions is state-by-state; however, installing in Northeastern and Midwestern states for the past few years, the professional, field-application of No-Burn® Plus is attractive for the obvious reasons of constructing homes and buildings with the preferred materials and methods, such as a particular manufacturer’s product, cost competitiveness and the short duration from start to completion. No-Burn®, Inc.’s Plus option has been preferred over the code’s additional options. Performing to meet the code’s provisions, coatings offer builders,engineers and codes authorities an innovative option.
