To commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and highlight the importance of fire safety and prevention, The National Fire Protection Association sponsors Fire Prevention Week (FPW) each year during the month of October from October 3-9.
|
This year’s theme is focused on the proper maintenance and use of smoke alarms. “Beep, Beep, Beep” is truly, “A sound you can live with” (NFPA.org, 2010).
Characteristically, fire prevention and/or protection is categorized as one of the following systems: active, passive or detective. Installed to detect fires and alert occupants, detective systems such as fire alarms are imperative; and when used in conjunction with active or passive fire systems, fire prevention and/or protection may be heightened.
- Become aware of the fire hazards in your home. For more information visit, NFPA's Fire Prevention Week 2010.
